Revolution And IceMen To Battle In Ft. Wayne |
The All American Hockey League announced Wednesday that the Battle Creek Revolution, affiliate of the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League, will play the Evansville IceMen, an affiliate of the Ft. Wayne Komets, at the Ft. Wayne War Memorial Coliseum Friday, Feb. 12 at 8pm. The Revolution will take on the IceMen in an official All American Hockey League (AAHL) game. The game is being touted as the "IHL Stars of Tomorrow Game". It will also be an attempted record setting game. The All American Hockey League will attempt to set the World Record for the highest attended "Single A" Hockey game in history. The current record holder is the Fayetteville FireAnts of the Southern Professional Hockey League. The FireAnts packed 9,385 people into the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC on November 4th, 2008 for their Military Appreciation Night. "This is a great opportunity for the fans in Ft. Wayne and the entire MidWest to show who the best minor league hockey fans are," IceMen General Manager Chip Rossetti said. "We're challenging the people in Ft. Wayne and in the MidWest to come out and support this game and help us set the World Record. We would love to sell this game out and break the record." "The entire Revolution organization is excited to have the opportunity to showcase our players and on-ice product to the great hockey fans of Fort Wayne", said Joseph Burkhardt, Revolution Co-Owner. "This is a chance for the younger players to be exposed to a big time atmosphere like they have probably never experienced before, it's a great time to make an impression in front of thousands of knowledgeable hockey fans." The IceMen and the Revolution have also agreed that a donation from the net proceeds from the game will be made to a charity to be named later. Ticket prices for this special record setting game range from $10.00 in the lower arena to $5.00 in the upper deck. Children tickets are $4.00 for any seat in the Coliseum. Tickets to the Evansville-Battle Creek game will be included in all Komet season ticket holders packages at no additional cost to season ticket holders. Tickets will officially go on sale for this game sometime in late September. |
IceMen Ready For Home Opening Weekend Evansville, IN: The Evansville IceMen (1-1-0, 2 pts) of the All American Hockey League are in the middle of a tough week of practice in preparation for Friday nights battle with the Madison Ice Muskies (2-0-1, 5 pts) and Sundays game against the Chicago Blaze (2-0-0, 4 pts) "It's time to get this thing into a higher gear", head coach Jack Collins said. "We have a couple of games under our belt and we can see the things that we need to work on and that is what we are doing." The IceMen split their season opening series with the Ice Muskies this past weekend in Madision, winning 8-7 in a shootout on Friday and falling 6-0 on Saturday. "Those games went a long way toward seeing what our team is made of", Collins continued. "All in all, when you go on the road for a two game set and you split those games, you've done pretty well. Now we just have to kick it up a notch and win some big games at home. The IceMen will play their home opener on Friday, October 30th, at 7:00pm, against the same Ice Muskie team. Friday is Nick Nackery Opening Night. Fans are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to the game. The IceMen will be back on the ice on Sunday, November 1st, at 4:00pm to take on the Chicago Blaze on College Night. Wear your favorite college teams apparel to the game. |
Shootout Ends In Blaze Burning IceMen EVANSVILLE — In a dogfight that led to their second shootout of the season, the Evansville IceMen suffered their first home loss on Sunday night, falling to the undefeated Chicago Blaze 5-4 at Swonder Ice Arena. “It was a good game, but it could have been better,” general manager Chip Rossetti said of the loss. “We proved we can play just as well as any team in the league.” With nearly three-fourths of regulation spent in a tie, it was a back-and-forth battle between the two from the first goal, scored 41/2 minutes into the game by the Blaze. Evansville responded six minutes later, when Aaron Naphan got one by Chicago’s goalie, Jon Smarsh. The Blaze struck first again in the second period, this time short-handed. The IceMen matched them and gained a one-goal advantage during a power play, but Chicago tied it back up at 3-3 before the period ended. In the third period, Evansville and Chicago each scored a goal apiece. The IceMen’s Jed Johnson during a power play 51/2 minutes in and the Blaze tallied their goal with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Neither team could chalk up a goal during the sudden-death overtime. Evansville goal keeper Mario Passarelli fended off seven shots on goal in overtime. But he was not as successful during the ensuing shootout, allowing T.J. Schneider, who scored two of the Blaze’s goals, and Pat Lee, who had one goal and two assists, to make shots on him. Ryan Ford was the only IceMen player to get one by Chicago’s goalie. Power plays held a key role in the tight game. During their nine power-play opportunities during regulation, Evansville scored two of their four goals. Chicago did not convert during their three opportunities, but they did manage to score short-handed. “Our style of play is the most conducive to playing five-on-five,” Rossetti said. “Even when the calls are for us.” The calls were more frequent for Evansville, as Chicago spent 25 minutes — split among 10 players — in the penalty box compared to the IceMen’s 11 minutes among four players. Coach Jack Collins labeled capitalizing on power plays and performance in the defensive zone as main areas of improvement. The IceMen will have the rest of the week to work on that before facing the Battle Creek Revolution for the first time since their first-round playoff loss to them last season. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday at Swonder. |
